The Aintree Head and Neck Airways group was founded initially as a response to a patient safety incident involving a tracheostomy at another hospital. The group wanted to make sure that the Head and Neck unit at Aintree utilised the best practice for head and neck airway management. The Airways group felt that a significant way to improve the safety of patients with a tracheostomy or laryngectomy would be for patient information posters going above the patients bed - enabling emergency services vital / life saving information in an instant.
