Mr SR Jackson

Mr Shaun Jackson was first introduced to Head and Neck Surgery as a student at Liverpool University. He was exposed to the discipline by the late Professor P M Stell, one of the pre-eminent international figures in the development of Head and Neck Surgery.

Having decided to pursue a career in Head and Neck oncology Mr Jackson obtained training posts as both Registrar and Senior Registrar within the Mersey Region working with Professor Stell. Whilst undergoing this training he was seconded for an 8 month period to the University Hospital Zurich in Switzerland to cover as their Head and Neck surgeon left at short notice. Mr Jackson trained the Swiss surgeons in Head and Neck surgery and ran the Head and Neck Oncology service until they had a suitable candidate to take up the post.

On return to England he was appointed to Whiston Hospital with a view to developing a joint Head and Neck Oncology service with the regional Plastic Surgical unit, which he successfully did for several years. Mr Jackson also developed the thyroid and parathyroid surgery service at Whiston Hospital having the third largest such practice in the Mersey Region.

In 1998 Mr Jackson moved to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and took on Head and Neck Oncology Service following the retirement of Professor A Jones (Professor Stell's successor).

In 2001 Oncology Services in Mersey Region were rationalised and the service at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital moved to University Hospital Aintree where Mr Jackson joined his ENT colleague, Mr Roland. A combined Maxillo-Facial and ENT/Head and Neck service was set up becoming one of the largest in Europe.

Mr Jackson continues to undertake the Head and Neck Oncology clinic at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and also a further oncology clinic at Arrowe Park Hospital for Wirral patients.

In 2002 Mr Jackson became Clinical Director for ENT, at Aintree, and during his time in this post appointed a further three ENT/Head and Neck Surgeons to join the joint team.

He continues as Lead Clinician for the ENT/Head and Neck department. He is also vice Chairman of both the Mersey Regional Head and Neck Clinical Network Group and the thyroid cancer multi disciplinary team.

Mr Jackson has an interest in complex thyroid disease, both benign and malignant, as well as his general Head & Neck practice.
